This Scream Pub is located right next to the Birmingham University campus in Selly Oak so is usually full of students. Thanks to its reputation for having cheap drinks, a good atmosphere and ideal location for getting into the city centre clubs, The Gun Barrels also attracts a lot of people from nearby areas - myself included.
Expect a bit of a struggle for a seat or spot at the bar on weekends or nights when the football is on (there are numerous screens around the pub showing the major sports games).
The Gun Barrels is a great place for a cheeky drink on a hot summers day thanks to its huge beer garden.
Just get there early as you can be sure that everyone else will have had the same idea!
La Tasca is a great authentic Spanish restaurant with a wide selection of Tapas on offer for all tastes.
Choose from a range of Chicken, Seafood, Vegetable and salad dishes for a fantastic dining experience with friends or family.
It's quite easy to miss this branch of La Tasca, tucked away behind Broad Street, but it is a hidden gem which seems to be popular with lots of different types of people.
Whenever I've been here we've been well looked after and served quite quickly, which definitely encourages me to go back and recommend other people to give it a visit.
If you're on a bit of a budget try their 'Tapas for a tenner' menu on a Sunday, Monday or Tuesday where it's all the tapas you can eat for £10. There's not as much choice as on the main menu but still plenty of tasty spanish treats to get stuck into!
An excellent pub which holds a great variety of nights not on offer elsewhere in the city.
The courtyard area is great all year round. Summer all day parties like Hott Date are made better by the fact that you can sit and catch some rays, while the retractable roof and heating come on in the Winter to keep us warm.
In my opinion, even better than the Rainbow pub is the Rainbow Warehouse. You'll find this massive space a little further down Addeley Street, and although it is just an old converted warehouse the atmosphere at the events I have been too there have been electric!
Outside this warehouse the area was transformed into Birmingham's very own beach complete with 40 tonnes of sand, deckchairs and an ice cream van. 'Fun Times club' which was held here every Wednesday was definitely one of the highlights of my week over the Summer.
Now Winter's arrived I'm told the beach has been replaced with 'The Garden' - definitely one to check out!
Located at the back of the Mailbox, Pennyblacks is unique with its fusion of all the best elements of a traditional pub and modern wine bar in one place.
Wine connoisseurs will love this bar which has vast displays of fine wine on offer, and available to take home. (Pennyblacks also operates as an off licence).
At Pennyblacks they serve food that would have been available in the same place 100 years ago. Think Scotch Beef Liver, Traditional Braised Faggots and everyone’s pub favourite – chips.
While the food doesn’t appeal to my tastes, I found that this was a great place for a quiet drink after dinner.
This restaurant in The Mailbox is a favourite of mine.
With its authentic Mediterranean decor and low key lighting it is the ideal restaurant for all occasions – a romantic meal for two or dinner with friends and family.
Despite how busy it always is we have never been disappointed with the quality of service or food available.
Offering a wide range of Tapas, Paellas and other authentic Spanish dishes - everyone is sure to find something they fancy from Bar Estilo.
I definitely remind booking a table in advance if you’re planning on giving Bar Estilo a visit as it is very popular, especially at weekends – and with good reason!
